These scanners, as the name implies, are normally semi-permanently installed in one place and directly connected to a computer system, or connected to a server via LAN. Rather than being hand-held and used actively by a human being to locate and scan bar code symbols, we assume that these scanners stay in one place and that the symbols are being brought to them. There is some science involved here, because one cannot always guarantee that each presented symbol will be the same size, in the same orientation, etc.
Scanners like these most commonly find use in Aurora’s system solutions that are installed into industrial applications where bar codes need to be read from boxes or other items moving on a conveyor, or within some sort of automated machinery.
